Inspired by a Shaker barn, this new house is beautifully sited with three
to thirty mile views in every direction. A small apple orchard
greets you on arrival and the house is surrounded by new stone walls to
define the "barnyard." In keeping with the simple Shaker style, the
interior cabinets, detailing, and colors continue a simple balance between
contemporary and traditional in an experimental way. The exterior
windows are tall awning type that mimic the barn slat ventilation flaps of
tobacco barns in the area. Also notice the hinged mirrors over the
master bath sinks that allow use of mirror or view of distant mountains
while at the sink. The living room fireplace is made of commissioned
hand-made tiles. Approximately 4,500 s.f.
